Re: De Friese geboortelepel: de historie

Hello, I don't suppose you happen to have the book "Lepels voor het leven" at hand? I am curious where the geboortelepel of Antje Mellis, pg104 of your book [#631], is located (museum? private collection?). She is the daughter of my patrilineal ancestor Melle Johannes, turfdrager in Bolsward, so thi...

Re: harmen harmens x wietske teies

Hallo, De man van Angenietje Harmens (de Jong) bestaat op mijn familieboom. Ik heb dit informatie over haar: (sorry Nederlands is niet mijn taal maar ik zal proberen) Haar achternaam (na 1812) was de Jong. Voornaam Angenietje, Angeniet of Agniet, patroniem Harmens of Harms. Angenietje Harmens de Jon...

Re: Preparation for a visit to the Tresoar reading room

Thank you Andries. Your outline of the early notarial-like records was exactly what I was looking for.

I don't suppose you (or anyone else) knows if an index or database of old Frisian painted portraits has ever been compiled.

Preparation for a visit to the Tresoar reading room

I would like to visit the Tresoar reading room early in the new year and have a couple of questions. What do I need to bring with me to create copies of documents? Is it possible to scan pages myself and then forward them home by email? Or for scans should I bring a USB flash drive to store them on?...

Re: Friesland: boeren- en burgerwapens; een eerste analyse

Very interesting. Some time ago you emailed me detailed images of the Homminga gravestone in the Tjerkwerd church which included the very worn C16th coat-of-arms of the Buwalda family (from Homminga's grandfather Ulbe Tiaerts van Buwalda). Do you think this might be the same Buwalda coat-of-arms as ...

Re: laagland

Er waren kolonisten in Schoterland vanaf 1770 met de achternaam Laagland (ook Lageland en Leegland gespelt) vanuit Ankeveen in Noord-Holland. There was a Laagland family from Ankeveen in North-Holland who settled in Schoterland in the 1770s to work the peat (turfmakers). She may be related to them s...

Re: The Tjerkwerd Homminga's & Homine Homminga of the Crusad

Thank you very much. That was an excellent photo of the gravestone. The details are very clear. I would really like to find some images of the family coat-of-arms. The heraldic details on the gravestone have all been completely worn away by 350 years of foot traffic in the church. The central one is...

Re: Y-DNA genealogical database for Friesland?

Did you see Fries Waddenproject at https://www.familytreedna.com/public/friesewadden Yes, I did add my results to the project. Anne Atsma is grouped under R1b1a2a1a1b, 5th from the bottom of the list. I will add the Schaafsma surname in as well since I now know more of the patrilineal lineage. http...

The Tjerkwerd Homminga's & Homine Homminga of the Crusades?

I was curious if there has ever been any research done to connect the Homminga family of Homminga State in Tjerkwerd with the Homine Homminga who left to fight in the Crusades in the year 1101. There's a few vague references to the Homminga crusader in this book: De Nederlandsche leeuw : tijdschrift...

Re: Y-DNA genealogical database for Friesland?

I might just do the transfer at this stage and upgrade later if any matches there do look promising. Yes, that sounds like the right decision. Sorry I forgot to mention that. If you already have your results and decide to use a different laboratory, you only need to make a few adjustments to some o...

Re: Y-DNA genealogical database for Friesland?

Each DNA laboratory uses their own methods. Your results from Ancestry will not be fully identical to your results from Familytree DNA. Therefore, if you wish to use their database, you will have to get another test. I found the information on transferring results on the Family Tree DNA FAQ page. T...

Hiring a professional genealogist in Friesland?

Hello, What are the options for hiring a genealogical researcher in Friesland? Would someone be able to suggest some agencies or individuals? Specifically, I'm seeking to trace the origins of my surname in C17th IJlst, drawing upon the more obscure records of that era (wills, taxes, notary records, ...

Re: Y-DNA genealogical database for Friesland?

Thank you. The Family Tree DNA site does seem to a good selection of Frisian families. I had a Y-DNA46 test done last year through ancestry.com, although that one seems to cater mostly people of British ancestry so was of no use in finding matches for my Frisian ancestry. It appears I can transfer m...

Y-DNA genealogical database for Friesland?

Is there a Y-DNA (patrilineal ancestry) database for Friesland?

I am trying to identify the paternal family of my great-grandfather (direct male line) who was born in Haskerland in 1871.

Re: Matching C19th house numbers with C20th street addresses

Thank you, How often did the house numbers change? Was it just once from numbers to street addresses or were houses also renumbered during the 1800s? I noticed they were still not using street addresses in 1928 in the Friesland Addressbook on Tresoar: http://www2.tresoar.nl/adresboek1928/ The hisgis...
